River Hills Residential Interior Remodel
The Home
Built in 1994, this contemporary home is nestled on acreage with river frontage. Having lived in the home for a few years, our client decided their kitchen and adjacent spaces did not fit their lifestyle. Our client desired a more open concept kitchen and living space better suited for hosting large gatherings.
Large load bearing columns and a portion of the wall were removed to create a wider opening from the kitchen into the sunroom. A wall was removed to allow the kitchen to expand into the adjacent office. The kitchen did not have direct access to the sunken family room. Removing base cabinets separating the two spaces improved sight lines, circulation, and connection to the family room.
Aesthetically
Having opened the kitchen to the living room gave our client a clear view of their sunken family room, newly faced fireplace, and lighted floating shelves. The white cabinetry, offset by gold hardware, and the Brazilian Koa flooring, creates visual movement from one space to another.
By removing the wall, we were able to create a long black island with beautiful black Corian Quartz allowing ample seating for living and entertaining. This open space also gave our clients natural light and a view of the property.
Innovative Methods
The client wanted to have a modern, open, yet private partition to separate the sunroom and the kitchen.
With some ingenuity, homework, and good trade connections, a commercial grade switchable privacy film was added to sliding glass panels. This gave the flexibility and stylish look the clients were looking for. The film is controlled by a low voltage remote fab and a transformer. This frosted feature with the touch of a button is a wow spectacle for everyone that visits!
