A Kitchen Reimagined
With its 10-foot ceilings and elegant transom windows, this home had strong architectural bones, but the kitchen didn’t match the family’s lifestyle. The peninsula closed off the space and separated the refrigerator from the main work zone, making everyday use less efficient. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that matched the warmth and character of their home while offering modern functionality for baking, cooking, and entertaining. COR’s redesign turned the space into a connected, welcoming centerpiece that feels balanced in proportion, light, and purpose.
Designed For Living
Removing the peninsula opened circulation between the kitchen, dinette, and living areas, creating a natural flow throughout the home. The new layout brings the refrigerator, cooktop, wall ovens, sink, and island into harmony, forming a true work triangle that supports how the family cooks and gathers. The large central island anchors the space with generous workspace and seating, while a new bar with glass display creates a dedicated area for entertaining and conversation.
Balancing Form and Function
To preserve the kitchen’s clean ceiling lines, the team designed a custom soffit above the island to house a flush-mounted hood with integrated lighting. This clever feature solved a structural challenge and added an architectural focal point that brings the tall ceilings into better proportion. Layered lighting throughout the space provides flexibility for any task or mood, while the thoughtful layout makes daily use effortless, from weekday breakfasts to marathon baking sessions.
Crafted in the Details
A mix of painted and stained cabinetry showcases COR’s attention to craft, paired with light-rail trim, proportioned millwork, and a marble-inspired backsplash that adds subtle texture and movement. A double-drop crown and glass transom doors highlight the home’s vertical scale, while gentle arches connect adjoining spaces with a sense of rhythm and continuity. Every finish, from the wood tones to the stone veining, was selected to create a timeless and inviting atmosphere.
The Homeowners' Vision Realized
From the start, the design centered on the family’s lifestyle and their two curious cats. Protective barriers kept the jobsite clean and safe, while thoughtful planning ensured the finished space supported how they live, bake, and entertain. With its improved flow and handcrafted character, the result is a kitchen that feels as good as it looks.
